Sixth Grade Enriched Language Arts
2011-2012 School Year
Welcome to all of my students and parents! We have had a wonderful first-week-of-school . The students arrived ready to work and get to know each other. I so enjoyed meeting many of you at Open House last week and I know we will have a great working relationship this year. I am here to help and I encourage you to contact me with any concern or question whatsoever:

My website is a work-in-progress, so please check it frequently for changes/additions.
We are just finishing up a "Who am I?" poem and the students did a beautiful job. They had to think in a poetic and abstract way and I am very proud of them. They will be bringing these poems home soon. I do not know if I will assign a grade for the poems - they are so special and personal that I think maybe they should not be graded! And, in general, it will be awhile before I post any grades, so don't worry.
Our first literature selection will be The Samurai's Tale. We will probably begin the week of August 29th. This is a wonderful, challenging book and we will work very hard on it and the accompanying vocabulary.
Please help your child by taking a look at his/her Planner every day. As a class, we will write down any assignments, so the planner is a reliable source to determine the work your child must do at home.
I eventually want to post our SAT words here on the website. These are words that frequently occur on the SAT that high school students take. (Some middle school students take it also; there will be information about this opportunity on the E-Connect/E-Subscribe middle school messages soon.) Portions of these words are assigned in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
Also, soon to come, I will post helpful websites, recommended reading for advanced 6th graders, and some parent tips that seem to work!
