The Class of 2009-2010

WELCOMES

The Class of 2010-2011!

Learning Is Fun!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Rosemarie Smoral. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Reading Certification from John Carroll University.  I also received a Master's Degree in Elementary School Administration from the University of Akron.  My experience includes teaching first grade, second grade, and third grade.  I have also been an Interventionist Specialist at McDowell in the Supplemental Reading Program.  In 2004, I received the Distinguished Teacher Award in the Hudson City Schools.  In 2009, the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation named me as a Jennings Scholar.  In 2010, I was presented the Elementary Teacher of the Year Award by the Hudson PTO.  My husband, Steve and I reside in Solon with our two boys Patrick and Matthew.

My philosophy relies heavily on partnership between parent, child, and teacher.  If we work together with your child, he/she will feel both the importance that we place upon education as well as our support as we encourage them to take the academic risks that will help them grow!

I will strive to meet each child at the level at which they enter my classroom.  I know children learn in different ways.  Therefore differentiated instruction is part of my daily teaching.  I will work with each child and help him/her to grow throughout the school year.  That growth, I hope, will encompass social, emotional, and personal development as well as academic growth.

My classroom is a nurturing environment in which learners feel comfortable taking educational risks.  I expect the students to be successful and they will expect the same of themselves.  Each day I talk with the children and see that they enjoy some small success and some recognition as a very special person!

I ask you to be open and consistent in your communication not only with me but with your child as well.  Please ask everyday, "What did you do at school today?"  Pry if you must, but help your child by remaining interested in their job as a student.

High expectations, I believe, lead to high achievement.
