Social Skills Programs PEERSS (The Program for Establishing and Enhancing Relationships through Social Skills TM) & The FIT Program (Friendship in Teams) WRSLP offers social skills therapy year-round to children and adolescents with high-functioning autism, Asperger Syndrome, ADHD (both types), anxiety disorders, and other conditions that affect social communication in one-on-one, small-group, and large-group settings.
Program for Establishing and Enhancing Relationships through Social Skills (PEERSS) is our beginning social skills program and is designed to help students of all ages learn to talk to and make friends with peers.
The Friendship in Teams (FIT) Program is a sports program that combines social skills therapy and skills-driven adaptive physical education (PE). Peer models attend FIT sessions.
Offerings by AgeAges 4 to 7 years: Children attend weekly PEERSS therapy sessions. They also attend three consecutive FIT Jr. therapy sessions four times each year. FIT Jr. focuses on social skills that young children use on the playground and at recess. Each session is one-hour in length.
Ages 8 to 11 years: Children receive weekly therapy on four-week cycles: two PEERSS sessions that involve structured social skills lessons followed by two Elementary FIT sessions in which the children apply those skills in FIT activities. This model provides students continued intensive social skills training with the benefit of practice in PE and playground environments that closely match what they experience in school. Each session is one hour in length.
Ages 12 to 18 years: Students receive weekly therapy on seven-week cycles: six Advanced FIT therapy sessions followed by an optional session in which we provide students with social skills training involving age-appropriate technology and similarly engaging recreation activities.
Advanced FIT is designed for students who have acquired proficiency in the social skills taught in PEERSS therapy sessions and in Elementary FIT. Advanced FIT offers direct social communication therapy with an emphasis on application of skills in the context of PE and sports activities with peers. Each session is one hour in length.
