Core Curriculum

The Common Core State Standards, initiated by the National Governor's Association, were created as a vehicle to help educators prepare students for success in post-secondary opportunities and the 21st century global workplace. They are research and evidence based, rigorous, and internationally benchmarked.

For English, Language Arts (ELA), the Common Core State Standards are divided into Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and Language. In the ELA Core Standards, literacy development is a shared responsibility among all teachers and all content areas. Overarching the literacy standards are the College and Career-Readiness Standards.
