Science - Mr. Johnson
Week of May 21, 2012

Objectives:..
1.    The potential for accidents and the existence of hazards impose the need for injury prevention.
2.    The motion of an object can be described by its position, direction of motion, and speed.
3.    Average speed is the distance of an object travels divided by the time taken to travel that distance.
4.    Scientists design and conduct scientific investigations. They communicate their procedures, results and explanations to other scientists.
5.    Students should be able to design and conduct appropriate scientific investigations. This may include the use of experiments with multiple trials.
6.    Good experimental design requires keeping as many variables as possible the same –except for the one being tested-so that any result can be ascribed to the variable changed.
7.    Mathematics is important in all aspects of scientific inquiry.
8.    Motion can be measured and represented on a graph.
9.    In a collision, the change in an object’s motion is related to the speed of the colliding objects and the duration of the collision.
10.There is a direct relationship the mass of a moving object and the force it can apply on another object.
11.When an object is subject to a force, there is an inverse relationship between its mass and its resulting acceleration.
12.An object that is not being subject to a force will continue to move at a constant speed in a straight line.
13.Scientific explanations emphasize, have logically consistent arguments, and use scientific principles, models, and theories.
14.When designing a solution or product, students must consider constraints –such as cost, time, trade-offs, and materials needed-and communicate ideas with simple models.
15.Engineers often build in systems that provide safety.
