Classroom Procedures

Homework - School policy is for approximately 30 minutes of homework each night for third grade. Homework is generally a review of what has occurred in class. We encourage you to be involved in your child's homework. This is a great opportunity for them to explain to you what they are learning.   All unfinished daily work will become homework.

Absences - The school policy for make up work during absences is to collect the work while the student is absent and to give it to them to complete upon their return.  Most of our classroom work can not be made up at home due to the" hands on" approach, the amount of discussion, the lack of "worksheets" and the impossibility of duplicating a learning situation.  Please make every effort to have your child here every day unless they are ill.  Absence due to vacation is strongly discouraged.

Book Orders - Your child will bring home an optional book order approximately once a month.  If you choose to place an order, please be sure to pay by check made out to the book company.

Permission Slips - Please date each note that you send to school.  Children are not allowed to stay inside during recess.  If you feel that your child is too sick to go out for some fresh air at recess, he/she is probably too sick to be in school.

Snack - We have a snack every morning.  This is a time for something nutritious - fruit, vegetables, cheese, etc.

Classroom Parties - We have 4 class parties; Halloween, December Holidays, Valentine's Day and the end-of-the year party.  Room mothers will be organizing the parties. t\They will be asking for help from each class member's family in the way of donations of food and/or supplies.

Guidance Services - Kristen Gilliland and Cathy Leighton are the school guidance counselors. They can be reached through the main office number or through email.  They are available to meet with parents and students.

Birthday Treats - We celebrate birthdays in the lunchroom at our assigned lunch table.  If your child brings the treat in the morning, we will send it with him/her at lunchtime. You are welcome to bring in the treat at lunch and be a part of your child's celebration. Please remember to send napkins and plates if they are needed.

I look forward to a wonderful year of partnering with you to provide the best possible education for you child.
