Homework - School policy is for approximately 30 minutes of homework each night for third grade. Homework is generally a review of what has occurred in class. We encourage you to be involved in your child's homework. This is a great opportunity for them to explain to you what they are learning. All unfinished daily work will become homework.
Absences - The school policy for make up work during absences is to collect the work while the student is absent and to give it to them to complete upon their return. Most of our classroom work can not be made up at home due to the" hands on" approach, the amount of discussion, the lack of "worksheets" and the impossibility of duplicating a learning situation. Please make every effort to have your child here every day unless they are ill. Absence due to vacation is strongly discouraged.
Book Orders - Your child will bring home an optional book order approximately once a month. If you choose to place an order, please be sure to pay by check made out to the book company.
Permission Slips - Please date each note that you send to school. Children are not allowed to stay inside during recess. If you feel that your child is too sick to go out for some fresh air at recess, he/she is probably too sick to be in school.
Snack - We have a snack every morning. This is a time for something nutritious - fruit, vegetables, cheese, etc.
Classroom Parties - We have 3 main class parties each year. These are at Halloween, December Holidays and Valentine's Day. Room mothers will be organizing these and they will be asking for help from each class member's family in the way of donations of food and/or supplies.
Music Program - We will have a music program in the spring which includes all third grade students and it is directed by the music teachers.
Guidance Services - Cathy Leighton and Kristen Gilliland are our school guidance counselors and they can be reached through the main office number. They areavailable to meet with parents and students. A handout explaining their services is attached.
Birthday Treats- You are welcome to bring in a birthday treat on or near your child's birthday. The class will be enjoying this snack down in the multi-purpose room during lunch. Let me know when you would like to bring in your child's treat.
