WELCOME TO RESPECT COMMUNITY LANGUAGE ARTS

Dear Families,

       My name is Cathy Kantin and I am excited to be your child's language arts teacher this year at Hudson Middle School.  This is my fourth year teaching in Hudson. I taught sixth grade for nine years in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools, then stayed home with with my children for seven years. I was thrilled to get back into teaching:   especially at a district with a great reputation like Hudson.

       I live in Solon with my husband Bob, son Matthew who is ten, and twin daughters Ari and Maddie who are eight.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, exercising, and reading.

       I am very enthusiastic about teaching and try to make my lessons creative and engaging for students.  Students are active learners in my classroom.  I have high, but realistic expectations for academics and classroom behavior, and work hard to create a sense of community in the classroom built on mutual respect.

       In language arts this year students will improve their reading and writing skills.  They will read short stories and answer questions from their Elements of Literature textbook. Soon information will come home that will explain how this textbook can be accessed on line. Students will learn grammar skills, SAT vocabulary, reading and writing strategies, and complete book reports.  Homework in language arts will typically be given Monday through Thursday nights.  I try to give students time to start their homework in class.

     Now that you know a little about me, I would like to have the opportunity to get to know more about your child.  During class on the first week of school students wrote letters to me about their summer, interests, and concerns if any about language arts and/or middle school. Please e-mail me any insights about your child that would help to make language arts and the first year of middle school a positive experience.   I will use the e-mail addresses I receive to send updates throughout the school year.  Please e-mail me by Friday, September 2nd.
