Welcome to EastWoods. The cross-categorical program is very unique because its foundation is based on the talents, gifts, and needs of the students. Each year the program takes on a different look because the student population is very diversified. As a teacher, it is my job to develop programs that best suit the needs for each student. My time is divided between both fourth and fifth grade. My day is spent in the inclusive setting of the general education classes, individual or small group instruction and resource room activities. Much time and effort is spent in collaborating with my teams allowing us to modify and adapt curriculum.
I graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. I continued my education at Kent State University where I earned a Master's Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Multiple and Orthopedic Handicaps. In 2002, I tackled my greatest educational challenge which was becoming a National Board Certified teacher. It was a tremendous amount of work and made me aware of best teaching practices. I hope when you visit my classroom these teaching practices and individualized instruction are evident.
My teaching philosophy is "All students can learn. It is the way they learn which is different." I want my students to realize they can learn anything, do anything as long as they work hard and maintain appropriate social behaviors. They need to realize their strengths and interests and let their teaching team help them be the best student possible.
