Don't live in a vacuum:  My kid isn't involved?  If you have teens, they are exposed and being forced to make choices.  Even the "good" kids are making decisions.

Communicate:  If they are going to someone's house, call the other parents, make sure someone will be there. If you are unsure about what is going on talk to another parent.

Avoid being intimidated: When you hear, "No one else's parents call", don't believe it! Part of growing up includes experiencing freedom and building trust; part of being a teen includes making mistakes.  Be proactive in how they learn.

Alternative activities:  If there is nothing for our youth to do, they will create something! Reducing the pull of alcohol and drugs in our community means helping our teens find other activities.  Friday and Saturday nights are especially important!
