What Should We Understand From the HOLOCAUST?

"Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."

INTRODUCTION

There have been many times we forget about the experiences of others.  At times we see others are in pain and need help.  When we are unaware of other individuals needs are we at fault for their pain?  If we turn our heads in ignorance and fail to respond to the need and pain of others are we as bad as the people who hurt?

This we ponder when we study the HOLOCAUST.  We feel terribly moved by the violence, hate, and annihilation so many experienced that our own understanding of "how it happened" overrides the understanding of "how it could have been prevented".  Prevention is the key.  We must halt the hatred against each other in our own community to prevent a world of hatred among others.  Creating an existence among all people that ends genocide and ethnic violence while fostering tolerance is possible.  The possibility lies in our understanding of the HOLOCAUST.  The memory of the HOLOCAUST must be preserved in order to PREVENT another tragic form of human genocide from reoccurring.

PURPOSE

This search will serve as an opportunity for you to think about the importance of studying the HOLOCAUST.  As years pass the first hand story of the HOLOCAUST fades.  Therefore we should make attempts to spread the memory to future generations in hopes of living in a more tolerant and accepting world.
