Hudson Middle School
Integrated Mathematics I
Syllabus
Connected Mathematics provides units of work for grades 6, 7 and 8. Every unit develops a “big idea” that is an important cluster of related concepts, skills, procedures, and ways of thinking.
What Do You Expect?
Probability and Expected Value
Probabilities of two-stage events.
Variables and Patterns
Introducing Algebra
Variables; representations of relationships, including tables, graphs, words and symbols.
Samples and Populations
Data and Statistics
Explore the process of statistical investigation; compare samples using measures of center (mean, median, mode), measures of variability (minimum and maximum values, range percentiles); data displays that group data (histograms, stem-and-leaf plots, box-and-whisker plots).
Stretching and Shrinking
Similarity
Similar figures; scale factors; basic similarity transformations and their algebraic rules.
Comparing and Scaling
Ratio, Proportion and Percent
Rates and ratios; making comparisons; proportional reasoning.
Accentuate the Negative
Integers
Understanding and modeling integers; integer operations; Order of Operations; four-quadrant graphing.
Filling and Wrapping
Three-Dimensional Measurement
Volume and surface area of various solids; volume and surface area relationships.
