Math 7
Textbook: This year we will be using a variety of materials to learn math concepts. Our main textbook this year will be the Transitional Mathematics program which is a research based program designed for students struggling in math. We will also be supplementing this textbook with the Number Worlds program and some of the Connected Math.
Homework: Homework will be assigned nightly. It is essential for your child to complete each day's assignment completely in order to experience the greatest success. Each assignment is worth 7 points. In order to get full credit for each assignment, it must be: in pencil, complete, score 93% or higher, and show all work. If a student receives 4 or below out of the possible 7 points on their homework, they are able to correct the missed problems and return it for more homework points. All homework is to be done in their graph paper notebooks and not torn out. This will cut down on lost assignments.
Tests: We will have a test about every two-three weeks, with about one quiz per unit. Before each test, we will complete a review lesson which will serve as a good study guide for the test. If students score a D or F on a Test, they will have the opportunity to correct their missed problems, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and turn it back in for a maximum of a C-.
Grading: Your child will receive a homework grade and a test grade. I will then average these two grades together for a final grade.
Calculators: I highly recommend all students have a calculator and bring it with them to class daily. I require students to show all work on their papers, however they can check all answers with their calculators. They will be allowed to use them on some/ but not all tests, depending on what the test is assessing.
Late/ Makeup work: If your child is absent, he/she will have one day for every day that he/she was absent to make up that work. Late work will be deducted 5% for every day that it is late.
I am looking forward to an exciting year working with your child! Please feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns. You can contact me by email at gayhearb@hudson.edu or at 330-653-1316 ext 2243.
