Dear Team Families,

What a wonderful stretch of weather we are having! A special team thank you to Mr. Jeffries, who provided our team with an even closer look at electricity as our visiting professor last Friday. More than any year before, this program has yielded incredible connections for our students and I'm very grateful for your support.

This week, our team families will have an up close look at our culminating book project on Thursday. It will be held from 1:40-2:15 p.m. in our school's media center. Families are invited to peruse the problems our authors came up with as they wrote their Math Curse books. Pens will be provided for autographing these hardcover gems. By the end of the week, these books will travel to downtown Hudson for display at the Learned Owl and Hudson Library and Historical Society. If you volunteered to be a chaperone for our walking trip on May 29, a lunch order slip will be coming home for you to pre-place your order this week.

Ask your child to show you how he or she can flexibly solve larger multiplication problems like 45 x 27 using two strategies. The students are seeing how their work developing fact fluency is really paying off. This week, we start to tackle our final concept for the year -- larger division. We'll begin by using a cluster strategy, nicknamed "Super 7", to find quotients for larger problems. We'll practice this week and then also learn and practice the traditional long division algorithm in the school days remaining. There is no math assignment this week to allow students time to put the finishing touches on their Math Curse books.

Scientists will be learning the main parts of a light bulb and then wiring their circuit boards to illuminate a flashlight bulb. Then, we will make connections between magnetism and electricity by building and testing an electromagnet.  We are also hoping to weed in our courtyard gardens this Wednesday. If anyone has extra perennials they are dividing, we have one empty bed we could add plants to. We will also be using an on line tool, "Garden Wizard", to plan which herbs and vegetables we will plant the first week of June in our raised bed.

Spelling tests for unit 14 will take place this Monday for students in my homeroom and Wednesday for students in Mrs. Antes' homeroom. We've made it to our final unit and spelling lists for unit 15 will be built and distributed this week.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at our Math Curse sharing day. I am bursting with pride over the children's work on these great books!
