WELCOME STUDENTS AND PARENTS

This web page has been designed to hopefully give both parents and students some helpful information. Grades can be checked on Progress Book and if you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me either by email or by phone. If you still have questions after reading the following information you can email me at briggss@hudson.edu.

HOMEWORK POLICY: I assign homework almost daily. Students are given an assignment sheet at the beginning of each chapter which outlines the entire chapter. It gives them their homework (listed on the day it is assigned), and lets them know when their quizzes, and chapter tests will be given.
CHAPTER TESTS: At the end of each chapter students will take a test which covers everything that we have gone over that chapter. Each test is worth 100 points.
FST Practice Tests: Two days prior to the end of the chapter students are given in class a practice test (PST). This practice is similar to the actual test. I give the practice test (similar to the idea of a scrimmage in sports) to let the students see what areas they're doing well in and what areas they need to get some help with, before they take the actual test. The practice test doesn't count for a grade. I do however keep track of how well the students do, but it doesn't affect their grade. They can receive extra credit from the practice test if they do well on it. They receive 5 points extra credit if they score between a 90% and 100%, or they receive 3 points if they score between an 80% and 90% .

Help: If students are having difficulty there are several things that can be done:
1. The first thing is to make sure they are doing their homework. This is crucial to doing well in mathematics. If they are doing their homework then they need to make sure that they're checking their answers.
2. Next, they need to ask questions on those problems that they've missed and if the explanation doesn't clear things up then they should either ask for another way to look at the problem, or perhaps a more thorough explanation is in order.
3. Students should also utilize each other as resources. Forming study groups is an excellent way to be sure that you are understanding the material.
4. The math lab. (room A113) is available every period during the school day. The math lab is staffed by a math teacher every period of the day. (On block days be sure to check the schedule, there are a few periods when the teacher is in the lab only part of the block period).
5. After school tutoring is available in the Academic Resoure Center (A106) with Mrs. Neff and National Honor Society students. Times are posted outside of room A106.
6. Help with homework is also offered by the National Honor Society students in the Teen Room of the Hudson Library. Times are: Mondays 3:00-5:00 & 7:00-8:30 p.m. and Tuesdays 7:00-8:30.
7. A list of private tutors can be obtained from the Guidance department, or from the schools webpage.
