"Where Everyone is a Student and Everyone is a Teacher"

Introduction

Hello! My name is Pat Armbruster. My educational background includes a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities from Kent State University as well as a Masters Degree in Reading Specialization also from Kent State University. I consider myself a life long learner.  I completed my certification as a gifted intervention specialist in 2009. I have over 84 hours of study in addition to my masters work and am constantly reading educational journals and books to keep current in my knowledge about  educational practices.  As a teacher in Hudson for 35 years, I taught first grade for twenty years, third grade for twelve, and this is my fourth year as the REACH teacher at McDowell. This year I will be the gifted children's language arts teacher in third grade and  will be one of the two fifth grade REACH teachers in language arts at East Woods. I have been the gifted consultant for kindergarten, first, and second grades.  I feel very fortunate to have my dream job as a Gifted Intervention Specialist.
My philosophy of teaching is to offer a supportive, nurturing and intellectually stimulating classroom environment where all students have ownership and where everyone feels respected. The motto of our classroom is "No one is a failure who keeps trying," and I encourage students to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from mistakes right along with me. The success of this year will be a team effort between students, parents and teachers. Together we will facilitate some amazing accomplishments.
