McDowell Elementary News

The McDowell Staff would like to extend a HUGE thankyou to the PTO and all who contributed to our Staff Appreciation Week.  It was a great success and we are all so fortunate to have such a caring community.  From the staff breakfast, the latte mugs,  the notes of appreciation, the school supply goodie bags, to the excellent staff luncheon, we can't thank you enough for all your time, energy and thoughfulness.  All your efforts make McDowell a lovely place at which to work and teach.  Thank you!

DROPPING OFF/PICKING UP STUDENTS
Uninterrupted instruction time is very important for your child and his/her classroom.  When dropping off your child and signing him/her in at the office, we encourage the child to walk to his/her classroom alone.  When picking up your child, after signing them out, please wait in the office or front hallway for your child to meet you.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

2-HOUR DELAYED START TIME
McDowell's start time:  10:55 AM; End time:  3:40PM

  • Notified by Alert Now call
  • Schools will start 2 hours after the typical bell times
  • K-3 will be served a no-choice lunch  due to limited prep time
  • HCER before school childcare (SACC) will not be held on a 2-hour delay start day

Hudson Schools has the option of delaying the start of school by two hours rather than lose an entire instructional day due to bad weather and road conditions. The District will use multiple resources to announce the day, including the Alert Now phone system. If a two-hour delay is called, school start times and bus pick up times begin two hours later than normal. If a two-hour delay is called, it is important to have alternative plans in place for childcare, particularly, since there is always the possibility that school may be cancelled for the rest of the day if weather or road conditions do not improve. A second Alert Now call may take place within 60-90 minutes after the initial announcement for a two-hour delay should school be cancelled for the day.  HCER before school childcare, AM Kindergarten and Preschool are cancelled if there is a two-hour delay.

MORE IMPORTANT MCDOWELL  NEWS

SCHOOL START TIME:  School starts at 8:55AM.  Children cannot be dropped off before 8:40AM, as there is no supervision before that time.

Parents:  If your child is going to go home with a friend  on the friend's bus, TWO NOTES ARE NEEDED....ONE FOR THE TEACHER AND ONE FOR THE BUS DRIVER.  OR, you can go to the McDowell main webpage and click on "Forms" and download the TRANSPORTATION CHANGE  form.  For additional bus/transportation  information, call  330-653-3355.

Please do NOT rely on email or voicemail to get messages to your child's teacher or the office regarding change of plans for dismissal, pick-up times, or any other after-school activities.  Often , teachers/staff are unable to check their email, could be absent, or the network could be down.  THANK YOU!

TO REPORT ABSENCES:  330-653-1300
If your child is not going to be in school for ANY reason (dr. appt., overslept, ill, etc.) by 8:55AM, you MUST call the attendance line to report the absence.  This phone call is NECESSARY for every day of your child's absence.  If we are unable to account for your child, we will call the Safety Center to have someone check the residence.  This is done in the best interest of your child.  Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

PARENT PICK-UP GUIDELINES
When picking up your child at the end of the day, please remain in the Parent-Pick-up line and pull up as appropriate.  The supervisor on duty will release the children to your car as you pull up, and will not allow the children to run and meet you if you are not in front of the line.  Please do not park in the school parking lot and call to your child to come to the parking lot.  This procedure needs to be followed for the safety of your child.  There are many cars going in and out at the end of the day and we need to insure no one gets hurt.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
