Writing

"Writing is lifework, not desk work. Writing and reasons to write are all around us. It helps us live wide-awake lives."                                                      Lucy Calkins

The world in which we live is changing rapidly. New electronic media like e-mail, instant messaging, text messaging, personal Web pages, and blogging have created multiple opportunities for students to write in different styles for varying purposes and audiences. The state achievment writing tests highlight the importance of strong writing skills as an indicator of student achievement. Research indicates that all students can be taught to improve their writing, and effective writing instruction strategies are known to boost student achievement.

The Hudson Schools has developed a writing program for grades K-8 that assures that every student has opportunities to learn and practice writing for different pruposes.
