Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the Hudson Nutrition Program for the 2008-2009 school year.  I am sure you will find our district to be an excellent place for your child to grow and learn.  We hope that while your child is a student here, he/she will find the Food Service Program full of enjoyable and healthy choices to help him/her in learning and growing with our commitment to wellness.

The Department of Nutrition offers lunch daily at each school.  As participants in the National School Lunch Program, each lunch served must include five components: a protein source, bread, a vegetable, a fruit and eight ounces of milk.  Choices of entrees are available each day, including both hot and cold selections.  There are also a variety of vegetables, fruits and cold milks to choose from.  In teaching our youngest students the concept of a balanced meal, all elementary students will receive a five-component lunch with milk daily.  At Eastwoods, Middle, and High schools at least five components are offered each day, however your child may choose as little as three foods to complete a meal.  Our schools also offer a variety of a la carte items for sale including portioned baked snacks, soft pretzels, bagels, juices, fresh baked cookies, chips, waters and alternate non-carbonated beverages ranging in prices from $.50 and up depending on location.

Hudson City Schools are proud to offer FSS POSitiveID System in their cafeterias.  This technology allows us to provide debit accounts for purchases, and increases the speed of food service to students so they have more time to eat and converse.  Parents enjoy the convenience of prepaying for their child's purchases at whatever level they choose.  The FSS POSitiveID System also eliminates the overt identification of students who are eligible for free or reduced meal benefits.  Parents can take advantage of our online services to include credit card or ACH payment options and viewing their child's lunch purchases at mychoolaccount.com.  The information stored on the FSS POSitiveID System is only for use by this software in the Department of Food Service.  There are several layers of security built into this software and the school district's network.

The identification of students is a barcode PIN. The PIN number correlates to the student ID number (EMIS Number).  The identification card provided to your student is their food service account card.  This number ensures unique identification and will avoid duplication of numbers for accounting purposes.  Students use an identification card with this number printed in the form of a barcode.  This number will allow access to purchasing on your child's account, so please keep it confidential.  Lost cards must be reported immediately to the school and food service offices to secure the account funds, and replacement cards are available for a fee.

In order to provide this service and continue to offer our meals at a reasonable price, we will be enforcing a district policy whereby money must be placed on the account prior to purchasing.  Students will have to have monies on account in order to purchase lunches and ala carte items.  If a negative balance greater then $5.00 is incurred, the student will be offered an alternate meal of a cheese sandwich, milk, and fruit and you will receive a reminder call from E-connect system regarding your low account status.

We urge you to take full advantage of this system by placing money into your child's account per your discretion on a weekly, monthly, or annual basis.  Monies deposited will be posted within 24 hours for purchasing.  Any money not spent by the end of school will be available for your child's use the following school year.  Should you ever want to access your child's account to verify his/her purchases you may sign up for myschoolaccount.com, or by requesting a report by calling the Food Service Department at 330-653-1203.  Please remember, we will not be accepting money during the lunch lines to decrease the amount of time students wait in line, and increase the amount of time they have to eat.

We are proud of the quality Food Service Program we offer in Hudson City School District, and we do our best to keep our customers, the students of Hudson happy and well fed.  If you have any questions about the Food Service Program you can reach me at the Food Service Office at 330-653-1203.

Sincerely,

Maureen Faron, RD, LD
