Special Needs

Summer Programs for Special Needs Consortium

HCER and Hudson Schools are joining forces with the neighboring east side communities to form a Blue Ribbon Special Needs Consortium for the purpose of sharing resources and developing cooperative programs.  Listed below are several joint programs  we are cosponsoring this summer.

Navigator Day Camp (Grades 4-6) and Navigator Day Camp II  (Grades 7-8)

Instructors for Grades 4-6:  Josanne Hyclak, 4th/5th grade Intervention Specialist & Rachel Shumyla, Intervention Specialist

Instructors for Grades 7-8: Jackie Baldridge, Kent State Student Majoring in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education and two additional counselors. Josanne Hyclak, Intervention Specialist at East Woods will assist in the planning of activities.

This summer program is designed for children entering grades 4 - 8 with high functioning autism or other disabilities that allow them to pursue a more academic program during the school year. Students must be able to independently complete self-care tasks (toileting and eating.) The focus of the program is two-fold. We will provide a structured setting in which to review academic concepts in a fun way and we will promote social and gross motor skills through group activities. Field trips off campus will support the weekly themes. PLEASE NOTE:  This is not an IEP driven program but will provide reinforcement of basic academic skills. All campers should report to East Woods School Commons on the first day of the camp. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Campers need to bring a packed lunch, snack, and drink. Limit 12 campers. Due to high demand, registration for this program will be open to Hudson residents only through April 16. If openings remain, non-residents may register beginning April 17.
