Historic Homes of the Laurel Highlands, PA   Friday, October 10

We will travel to the beautiful scenic Laurel Highlands of Southwest Pennsylvania during the full fall colors. Our first stop is the Nemacolin Castle, the historic homes of the Bowman family. Built in 1789, the 22 rooms furnished with antique furniture and household items, represents architectural trends and family living the past two centuries. The journey continues  to the Cochran Home, a magnificent restored Victorian home and the Cochran Church reminiscent of a European Cathedral. Our final stop is Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, Falling Water, a must see, even a second time.

Medieval Feast - The Castle Riverside, Cambridge Spring, PA    Sunday, October 26

The Riverside Inn, situated on the picturesque banks of French Creek, has been in continuous operation since 1885.  It was built to accommodate wealthy patrons during the exciting "mineral water boom" in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  The Inn was restored to its original beauty and offers a host of afternoon and dinner shows.  Join us for an afternoon of excellent food and great entertainment at the Medieval Feast at the Castle Riverside.

Christmas at TARA, Sharon PA    Saturday, November 29

Get into the holiday spirit and join us for a delightful tour; the perfect mix of shopping, historic mansions and good food.  Our shopping consist of stops at Reyers (the world's largest shoe store with over 300 famous brands), Daffin's Candies (the world's largest candy store and home of the magnificent chocolate kingdom) and the Winner (the world's largest off price fashion store).  The Winner offers fantastic prices on designer merchandise, with hundreds of designer-brands to choose from. Our mansion tours will visit the Buhl Mansion and Tara.  The Buhl Mansion is a beautifully restored Victorian homes turned into a bed and breakfast.  It also serves as a living gallery, displaying a wide variety of American, traditional decorative arts.  Tara is a beautiful re-creation of the famous plantation in 'Gone With The Wind.'  It is a Greek Revival style antebellum mansion built in 1854.  This wonderful depiction of majestic beauty is filled with antiques and memorabilia of days gone by.  Both homes will be decorated for the holidays.

Christmas Concert at Severence Hall    Saturday, December 13

Bring family and friends to Severance Hall to hear traditional Christmas favorites by the Cleveland Orchestra and choruses.  Seats will be on the main floor for an 8:00 p.m. show.  Dinner will be at Nido Italia in Little Italy.

2009 Ski Trips Preview

 

Mark your calendar for the one-day ski trips to Holimont Private Ski Center in nearby New York on Monday, Jan. 19 (MLK Day) and Monday, Feb. 16 (President's Day). These ski adventures are desgined for adults, youth and families and are offered on the days that Hudson Schools are not in session. Registration begins December 1 for these trips.

Hola, bienvenidos, a Beginner's Spanish!

Instructor:  Cecilia Barios

Would you like to travel knowing basic Spanish? This course is designed to provide vocabulary that will allow you to express, understand and take part in a simple or basic conversations. You will be able to ask and answer what, who, how, how many, and when questions. You will also learn to survive typical tourist dilemmas (documentation, maps directions, restaurant, etc.) It is fun and very interactive!

The objective of this course is to provide the would be business or vacation traveler with the needed language and cultural skills to interact successfully while traveling in Germany. The focus will be on dealing with everyday situations like dining, directions, shopping, sight-seeing, etc. This class is taught by a German-born American.

Andiamo in Italia - Let's go to Italy!

Instructor:  Cheri Passell

For the enthusiastic beginner with no previous training in Italian, this course is designed to provide communication skills for the tourist in Italy who would like a less superficial vacation experience. Our goal will be to learn easy phrases, greetings, travel vocabulary, and navigation skills. Through speaking, listening, reading and writing, students will learn how to survive in typical tourist situations (at the restaurant, the train station, shopping, etc.) Emphasis will be given to correct pronunciations, vocabulary, listening comprehension and ways to enhance the tourist experience, making it richer and more interactive.

Learning Chinese

Instructor:  Xiao Ying

Good beginning leads to a good ending! Come and join us in this culture and language learning environment to establish a good start for your future Chinese study! This class will include: daily spoken Mandarin Chinese and basic reading and writing Chinese characters and more as the goal.
