This course combines fun and education, providing the participant with basic wine knowledge. Feel confident ordering from a wine list, matching food and wine, discussing wine, entertaining with wine, and appreciating values in wine. Basic grape varieties and taste differences will be explored. No previous wine experience necessary. Maximum 25. Minimum 8. Deadline for registration is October 4th.

For the holiday season, learn to prepare these additions to your family favorites. Start with lemon bars, so tasty we call them "Lemon Lusters." The pretty yellow hue will lighten up your dessert tray. "Pecan Tassies" infiltrated with chocolate; "Rugala" with chopped dried apricots, walnuts, covered with white chocolate; and soft "Biscotti with Dried Cherries and Pistachios" with chocolate variations will all be demonstrated. Recipes will be given, along with all versions to eat...prepare to be inspired. Maximum 20.

Greening Your Roof

Advancing green roof technologies wherever possible, Brian Calamita of CRS, Inc., will educate you on the "green" basics. What green means, what products qualify as green as well as the benefits to your home, building and the environment. Discussion will include products such as metal, rubber, plastics and some natural options such as slate or cedar wood-shingle. Also discussed will be installation procedures, various costs and special recycling facilities that are available.

Or perhaps you have digital photos of your precious grandbaby, your daughter's dance recital, your son's athletic season, or your parent's wedding anniversary celebration that you'd like to show off in a hardbound digital scrapbook! Come learn how you can become a digital scrapbook author or photojournalist using FREE software! Prerequisite: Students should know how to use a computer, how to navigate Windows folders, open, close, and save files, and how to use a mouse. Students should bring with them a CD or jump drive containing at least 10 digital photos. Purchase of digital scrapbook is optional.

Getting started and improving beginning knitting skills will be the direction this class will take. Casting on, garter stitch, stockinette stitch, drop stitch, decreasing, casting off and felting will all be included in the instruction. Projects will include a scarf, a hat and a wool-felted handbag. It will be your choice to attempt one or all of the projects during the session, depending on the level of skills you begin with and develop during the session. Min. 5. Max. 12.

Mosaic Shards

This art form uses crockery shards and found materials to decorate objects. Have fun using a hammer to smash plates, cups or used pottery and learning the techniques to apply the pieces to tables, mirrors, vases, flowerpots or surfaces of your choice. Learn to create your own designs, grout colors and artwork for your home or garden. Material list will be given and discussed at the first class. Limit 12.

Pruning
Instructor: Charlie Robinson, Botanist
More residential landscapes lose their aesthetic appeal and get overgrown from improper pruning than any other cause. This class will feature a classroom lecture and discussion and a field visit to a classmate's residence to actually prune. In the classroom we will discuss plant identification, pruning tool choices, and seasonal timing of pruning. The hands on pruning will take place at a residence chosen by the instructor, Charlie Robinson. We will see first hand how thinning is done by using hand pruners. Shaping and shearing will be done with hand shears, leave your extension cords and electric shears at home! Charlie Robinson received a Bachelor's Degree in Botany from Kent State University. He has been working in the landscape industry since 1981 and is the owner of Robinson Lawn & Garden Center in Hudson. Limit 15.
