This American Red Cross course is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing emergencies, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Upon successful completion, each participant will receive an American Red Cross certificate indicating Adult CPR/AED that is valid for one year. Limit 8.

An Introduction to Voiceovers...Getting Started in Voice Acting

Instructor: Voices For All

Have you ever wanted to be the voice everyone hears on TV and radio commercials, or documentary or audiobook narrations? You too can become a Professional Voiceover Artist! This fun, informative, and empowering class will teach you the basics of the voice over industry to help you decide if it is something you'd like to pursue. We will discuss the many different types of voiceovers and what it takes to get started as a voice actor. Your voice will be recorded as you read from real scripts so you can receive a professional voice evaluation later. Be warned, many who have taken this class have gone on to become real, bona-fide, professional Voice Actors. Come ready to laugh, learn, and be inspired...This class is taught by a professional voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All.

Basic Canine Obedience

This course covers all basic obedience commands including but not limited to:  sit, down, stay, in your bed (stay) and heel.  The class will have an even mix of positive and negative reinforcement along with many games designed to "distract proof" your best friend.   Copies of vaccine records required at first class.  Limit 10, minimum 5.

This American Red Cross course is designed to teach the student the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This course does not include information on breathing or cardiac emergencies. These are covered in the CPR courses listed to the right. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating First Aid that is valid for 3 years. Limit 10.

Fee:  $37 / person, $62 / couple,

Giving Your Word: Writing Your Family Stories

Whether you are a writer exploring the genres of memoir and personal essay, or simply want a meaningful record of some of your family's life history, this workshop can give you some valuable tools. Learn how to choose, access and organize material, give depth and color to your words, and make your memories and observations come alive. Intro to Digital Photography

Intro to Image Editing

Organizing Your Photos

Now that you've joined the digital photography revolution and are free from the bondage of film costs, I'll bet you're taking more pictures than ever. Keep track of those images with the Adobe PhotoShop Organizer. It's part of the PhotoShop Elements package, so there's nothing more to buy! It's easy to use! Organizer allows you to catalog your images, separate them into collections , rate them according to your favorites and much more. Don't let another picture get lost in the machine!

HCER, in cooperation with Summa Wellness Institute, is hosting a monthly Lunch and Learn Series for persons 55 and over.  Jana Larsen will be your host and will introduce a series of program speakers who will entertain as well as provide new information.  Meals will be provided.  Please RSVP and register through HCER (330-653-1210) prior to the deadline date so that food and arrangements can be planned.

Rockettes at Playhouse Square

Take a chartered bus to Playhouse Square to watch the Rockettes perform their famous high kicks for a matinee followed by an early supper at The Cracker Barrel in Twinsburg.  The fee for this trip covers the performance and bus - meal on your own at the restaurant.

 

Reduce Stress, Learn Relaxation and Meditation (Ages 8 - adult)

Instructor:  Taff Price, licensed mental health therapist and parent of a special needs son

Join Taff Price in a 1 1/2 hour session learning several styles of relaxation techniques to help you and your special needs child who may struggle with anxiety or anger problems. This team approach of parent and child utilizing these techniques together, have proven effective in reducing intensity and number of episodes of anxiety and obsessive thoughts and angry outbursts. The first hour consists of "parents only" learning relaxation skills. Special needs child will join parents in the following 1/2 hour to learn and practice techniques together. Special needs children (8 to adult) who are able to comprehend information presented and are able to sit quietly for at least 20 minutes are eligible. Babysitting provided. Sign Language (High School Age & Older)

Learn to communicate in the language of sign. A basic course which includes fingerspelling, sentences, and songs. This class will enable you to develop skill and understanding of the deaf and hearing impaired. Students must purchase the text "Joy of Signing" by Dr. Lottie Rickenhof prior to the first class.
