Our youngest artists get the chance to explore paints, modeling compounds, oil pastels, watercolors and other wonderful art materials. They roll, scribble, shake and pound as they learn about color, shape and form while building the hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills that they'll need later in school to write and draw. They will build confidence while exploring creative and innovative materials. Our budding artist will shine! Mom/caregiver stays to help their little artist create their masterpieces.

Wet and Stick (Ages 3-5 years)

We'll use this technique as we have fun with colorful art tapes creating distinctive artwork, including Navajo rugs, Haida masks and a playful geometric abstract focusing on the design techniques of Robert Delaunay. Stencils, colored papers and paints will also be featured as we use our imaginations and design original funky animals like the artwork of Sophie Harding and simple figures inspired by the work of Charlotte Derain.  This action -oreinted session will resutl in some of our most colorful and lively work yet!

Fee: $65, plus $12.50 materials fee payable to instructor.

Young Rembrandts Preschool Drawing

(Ages 3 1/2 - 5 years)

Preschoolers are so eager to learn, and a joy to teach. Young Rembrandts instructors provide a positive, nurturing environment for your child. Each week we'll draw something these little ones are interested in, from fish to teddy bears, rainbows to cowboys, and we'll talk about the subject matter as we learn to draw it together. We'll concentrate on the skills of drawing and coloring, but also work on developing fine motor skills, focus, listening, staying on task, spatial organization and patience. Signing SmartTM Beginner Sign Language Play Classes (Ages 6-12 months)

Instructor:  Heather De Biase

This 10-week play class series integrates American Sign Language (ASL) and Signing SmartTM strategies into songs, games, and activities developed to engage very young children and their parents. Come join other parents and babies as you experience how to enhance early communication and promote long-term learning - without the need to sign all day long! This is a great way to reduce frustration and tantrums and discover what your child is thinking. Special Needs Social Time for children with ADD/ADHD, Aspergers Disorder, PDD/NOS, or High Functioning Autism (Ages 3-7)

An adult facilitated play and social time for children ages 3-7 years old with special needs. Parents will enjoy some respite as children will joyfully explore music, art, gymnastics and play. Children will participate in group time, center activities, and snack time with their friends. (Please pack your own snack.) Visual supports, sensory breaks, and a 1:3 ratio of aide will be provided to ensure a fun time for everyone. This is not an IEP driven class. This is a time for children to play and make friends in a safe environment with adults who understand and are sympathetic to their special needs.

Mommy and Me Together (Ages 2-3 years)

Instructors: Jodi Buchanan (B.A. in Music and Art), and Jana Larsen (Summa Children's Center Recreation Leader)

Intended for 2-3 year olds and their caregivers, this enrichment preschool co-op is inspired by the well-known European Montessori and Reggio Emilio philosophies in Early Childhood Education. Mommy and Me Together offers child-centered and play-based education in a creative and stimulating environment designed for optimal results. Through art, play, children's literature, music and movement, children will enjoy this inviting classroom experience in whole group time, circle time, and free play time. The goal of this course is to engage each and every child to satisfy individual curiosities while  Mom observes particular learning styles. Mommy and Me Together effectively imparts early opportunities for socialization skill-building for children while they are actively involved in hands-on exploration. Led by Jodi Buchanan and Jana Larsen, Mommy and Me Together offers a reasonably priced option  for any mother seeking the very best for her child. As always, this course is open to children with special needs. Children are not required to be potty-trained as mothers remain with children for this course. Limit 10.

On the Move

Instructor:  Ashley Prado

On the Move is an exciting, new parent/child interactive class developed and led by a pediatric physical therapist, specifically for children ages 18 months to 2 years old.  This class will focus on developing gross motor skills and coordination. With consultation from a local speech therapist, class will also include emphasis on early language development. These skills will be incorporated through music and play with familiar, everyday objects so that parents may gain ideas for at-home activities. Class size is limited to 10 children with their parent.

Love & Logic:  Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun!

Then, once you decide that it's time, what is the best way to discipline a small child?  This 5-part course helps parents of children from birth to six years of age have fun while setting limits and, most importantly, taking care of themselves!

Start Smart Sports Development for Preschoolers

(Ages 4-5)

Start Smart is a program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. This program is designed for preschoolers ages 4-5 as their first introduction to sports. The emphasis of this program will be on skill development and creating a fun experience for the child and the parent. This is not a competition based program. One parent must accompany each child and will also learn the basics of youth coaching as they share this experience with their child. The course fee includes equipment and a skills notebook which you will keep in order to continue to practice at home.

Little Racquets

This program emphasizes basic tennis, motor and social skills that lead to playing games on "short" courts with miniature nets, foam balls, tail balls (ribbon attached to ball) and junior size racquets.  Children are engaged in energizing activities such as: imaginative obstacle courses, agility ladder relay races, ABC forehand, tennis baseball, forehand, backhand, volley and serve progressions, king/queen of the court, small-net tennis and around the world. Limit 16 per class.

Fun With Beginning Reading (Ages 4.5 - 7)

Instructor:  Mary Celeste Starzyk, MA, Reading Specialist

Children ages 4.5 - 7 will enjoy learning beginning phonics through creative play using movement, props and stories. Children will develop their auditory memory for letters and the sounds they represent. In this session, the children will learn the alphabet sounds, rhyming, and beginning sounds. They will also learn about Baby Q and  that Thief X! This course will be the first of three sessions. The second session will begin in January and continue with more in-depth phonics; the third session will begin in April and be a continuation of the phonetic system. Children do not have to be enrolled for all three sessions. This class is perfect for children preparing for Kindergarten or for those in Kindergarten and first grade who need additional help learning to read. Limit 15.
