ROOTS OF DEMOCRACY
OBJECTIVE:  To research and analyze the documents and events that shaped the principles of self-government and natural rights that lead to American democracy.
Students will be using books in the classroom and internet at home to research the following topics.  Students will take their research notes on Cornell Note Sheets.
Research Topics:
     ~Magna Carta - 1215
     ~House of Burgesses - 1619
     ~Mayflower Compact - 1620
     ~Founding of Rhode Island - 1636
     ~Fundamental Orders of Connecticut - 1636
     ~Massachusetts Education Act - 1647
     ~Maryland Toleration Act - 1649
     ~Establishment of Pennsylvania - 1682
     ~English Bill of Rights - 1689
     ~John Locke: Two Treatises of Government - 1690
     ~John Peter Zenger Case - 1735
Upon completion of the research notes, have these checked by the teacher.  Once notes have been checked, student will receive the final copy form.  The final copy form is to be NEATLY completed and handed in.
