Senior Jones looks to lead lacrosse team to second consecutive state championship

Hudson High School senior Steve Jones knows how to dominate the lacrosse field.

After being a force on the ice, Jones now turns his attention to this spring, as the defending state champion Explorers’ lacrosse team tries to repeat its title run.

Although the Explorers lost some key players to graduation last year, the team still believes it can win the state championship.

“[We have] younger kids,” says Jones. “[We need to] take it one game at a time.”

Jones has been playing lacrosse since fourth grade.

The Explorers’ midfielder says he enjoys his time with his teammates and he expects nothing but a championship.

“[I love] being with the team…and the history of the sport,” says Jones.

This two-sport athlete knows success, both on the hockey ice and the lacrosse field.

The Explorers’ hockey team saw much success this past season. With that success came lots of new fans, especially more student fans.  Since the hockey team and the lacrosse team members seem to be close, more fans have supported the lacrosse team after hockey season, naturally. The football players have also flocked to every hockey and lacrosse game this season.

Jones, who will earn a varsity letter in lacrosse for the fourth year this year, has performed well for the lacrosse team for the past few years, and now he is finally getting recognition.

Although Jones missed the first five games of the season, his play has not missed a beat. This is why Steve Jones is the Explorer Athlete of the Month.
