2016 Golden Globe best and worst dressed

The 73rd Annual Golden Globes, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais on Jan. 10, was the official start to the award season in addition to the fashion debuts of designer gowns, suits, accessories and other apparel.

Vibrant solids, eye catching patterns, crazy cutouts, scandalous slits and glistening sequins were worn by many on the red carpet. As expected, red, black and white were the trendiest colors of the night. Jennifer Lawrence, Sophia Bush, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Malin Akerman, Laverne Cox and Lady Gaga were all recognized as best dressed women of the night. Unfortunately, Jane Fonda, Alicia Vikander, Amy Schumer, Katy Perry, Cate Blanchett and many more fell on the worst dressed for the award show evening.

In addition to the best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes, there were also many unexpected surprises; stars like Bryce Dallas Howard announced she not only purchased her own Jenny Packham gown, but she bought it at a department store! Jennifer Lopez wore a yellow Giambattista Valli. It had a cape, draping at the waist, and a high slit revealing a sparkly high pump — look nobody saw coming from her.

As the award season continues, more dresses, suits, shoes and jewelry will debut on the red carpet. As always, the stars’ outfit choices will be split into best and worst dressed. Those who had a fashion disaster at the Golden Globes have a chance to redeem themselves at future events. And those who were the best dressed could tumble or continue making appropriate fashion choices. Make sure to keep watching the awards shows to see all the worst and best dressed celebrities of the night. Some big award shows coming up include the SAG awards will be aired on Jan. 30, the Academy Awards and Grammys,  which  will take place in February.
